Compatibility
Which controllers does it work with?
Tosh Dash speaks the standard VESC UART protocol, so it is built for VESC-based controllers with a free UART port.
Tested so far: Spintend VESC-based controllers. I will extend this list as I test more.
Can I keep my Bluetooth module?
Yes, if it plugs into the NRF header. If it uses the UART port, only one of the two can be connected. Details under Wiring.
Does it change anything on my VESC?
No. It only reads values. You enable UART in VESC Tool once; nothing else on the controller is touched.
The product
What is in the box?
The fully assembled Tosh Dash — case closed, firmware installed and tested — and a printed installation guide. The VESC cable is optional and can be added at checkout.
Can I open the case?
There is no need to, and it is not made for it: the base plate is bonded in. Settings and firmware updates all run over Wi-Fi.
Is it waterproof?
No. The case is closed, but it is not sealed against water. Keep it out of heavy rain and do not hose it down. Water damage is not covered by the warranty.
Are there buttons?
No. Everything — what the display shows, which page is up, all vehicle data — is set from your phone over Wi-Fi.
Does it need a battery or charging?
No. It runs on the 5-volt supply of your VESC and switches on and off with your vehicle.
Software
Do I need an app or an account?
No app, no account, no cloud. The settings page runs on the display itself and opens in any browser.
Are updates free?
Yes. New firmware is installed from your browser over Wi-Fi. See Firmware update.
